Brain Mapping
Brain mapping refers to the pre- and intraoperative detailed assessment of the function of the brain in order to resect tumors from essential areas of the brain while preserving neurological function. This involves preoperative MRI planning and intraoperative electrical recording and stimulation of the brain to identify the motor, sensory and language pathways. This may be done under general or local anesthesia. Brain mapping is an essential technique during tumor resection from critical areas of certain parts of the brain.
